John Chris Gomez

Chris is a native of Visalia, California, and a graduate of Redwood High School.  He earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Political Science from San Jose State University.  Chris then earned his Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University, School of Law in 2001. Prior to earning his law degree, Chris worked as a legal assistant and office manager at the law firm of Stanwood & Price in Palo Alto, California. During that time, he gained invaluable hands on experience handing all aspect of family law cases under a practitioner with more than 20 years of experience.

Chris is a founding partner in the law firm Koch, Degn & Gomez LLP, which formed in January 2013.  He devotes the majority of his practice to the areas that make up Family Law, namely dissolutions and annulments, child custody and visitation, support and property division. Chris also has experience handling adoptions, guardianships and drafting Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs).

In addition to family law, Chris also handles estate planning, probate, conservatorships, real property issues, business transactions and business litigation. Chris is also on the criminal defense conflict panel for Tulare County.

Chris became a member of the California State Bar and the Tulare County Bar Association in 2001. He is admitted to practice in all state courts and the U.S. Eastern District Court of California.

Chris began his career as an attorney with the law firm of Hurlbutt, Clevenger, Long, Rauber & Nelson in Visalia, California. In 2002, after gaining a year of experience in private civil practice, Chris joined the Tulare County District Attorney's Office. There he gained experience conducting criminal prosecutions in the areas of agricultural crimes, narcotics, juvenile crimes and general felonies. Chris also gained litigation experience handling more than a dozen criminal jury trials. During his time at the district attorney's office, Chris was responsible for managing and litigating its civil asset forfeiture cases.

After leaving the District Attorney's office in late 2005, Chris joined the law firm of Gubler & Ide as an associate attorney.  In January 2009, he became a full partner in the firm Gubler, Koch, Degn & Gomez LLP.

Prior to his legal career, Chris served five years in the United States Marine Corps. During his service time, John studied the Russian language at the Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California. After earning his diploma, he spent the balance of his Marine Corps career working as a Russian Cryptologic Linguist.

Chris currently serves as on the Visalia Planning Commission and is a member of the Board of Directors for California Future Business Leaders of America.  He is a Member of Tulare Chamber of Commerce and is active as an attorney coach for the Redwood High School Mock Trial team.  

Cheryl R. King

Cheryl R. King was born and raised in Southern California. She graduated from Norwalk High School and then attended Cerritos College where she earned an AA Degree in Administrative Secretary. She pursued a career in the food industry and was employed by Denny’s Restaurants and Carl Karcher Enterprises where she worked in marketing and human resources.

After moving to Visalia in July 1995, she was employed at several different temporary agencies working in temporary secretarial positions. She then started her own word processing business. She later worked part-time at the Visalia Times-Delta as a proofreader and then accepted her first legal secretary position at a law firm. This prompted her to pursue a legal career and she attended the College of the Sequoias where she received her paralegal degree (approved by the American Bar Association) in 2002. Cheryl has worked extensively in the areas of family law, personal injury, civil litigation, criminal defense, sexual harassment, health care and business litigation. She joined the staff of John Chris Gomez in January 2006 and began working at Koch, Degn & Gomez LLP in January 2013.  Her current areas of emphasis are family law, collections, civil litigation, bankruptcy and estate planning. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.
